Prayer and Accountability Group

Because WVBC is not linked to any denominational structure or hierarchy we have formed a group of godly men and women to help us function as God intends. This group does not operate as “Bishops” or a “Presbytery”, but as people who are committed to prayer and holding the Leadership Team accountable to the Word of God. The group consist of mature Christian leaders and pastors who are widely respected in evangelical circles. The members of this Group are not part of the WVBC fellowship in Canberra.

John and Consuelo Baxter (Central Coast, NSW: Anglican)

John and Consuelo have lived and served the Lord Jesus in western Sydney and the lower Blue Mountains for much of the past 40 years. After training as a school teacher and then at Moore Theological College, John served as an Anglican minister until his recent retirement. He has also worked extensively with the Parent-Controlled Christian School movement and the World Bible League. Consuelo has pursued many ministry opportunities including Bible study leading, women's ministries and serving on the Boards of local Christian schools. Since their retirement from full-time ministry they have settled on the Central Coast where they are involved in their local church. The Baxters have four adult children and many granddaughters. John has preached on a number of occasions at WVBC over the past four years, including on “The Holy Spirit” at our Church Camp in 2007.

Dick and Jane Buesnel (Tathra, NSW: Uniting)

Dick and Jane reside in Tathra on the Sapphire Coast. Dick is the Bega Valley and surrounding regions Dairy Livestock Officer for the NSW Department of Ag, and Jane is a music teacher at the Bega Valley Christian College. Jane also teaches Scripture at Tathra Primary school. Both are heavily involved in Tathra Uniting Church (evangelical) where Jane serves in the music ministry and Dick as an elder and lay preacher. For over 35 years they have both been involved in ministry on Scripture Union Camps, both as leaders and camp parents. Dick also runs a men’s Bible study and organises Scripture Union Ag Camps for teens. They have three adult children, one of whom is Liz who is a link missionary of WVBC with Wycliffe in PNG. Dick was the speaker at the men’s camp of WVBC in 2004 and preached at church in 2006.

Bob and Jenny Edwards (Crossroads Christian Church: Independent)

Bob and Jenny have been married for over 18 years and have spent much of that time involved in ministry to university students, initially at the University of NSW and over the last decade or so at the Australian National University in Canberra. They are both involved at Crossroads Christian Church in Canberra where Bob serves in children’s ministry and Jenny is involved in several Women’s Bible Study groups. They are also involved in the Student Ministry (FOCUS) on their university campus. Bob has preached at WVBC in 2005 and 2006 and ran our Bible Kids program at Church Camp 2006. Their four growing children keep them very busy!

Bob and Evelyn Prior (Dickson, ACT: Baptist)

Bob and Evelyn have served Christ in full time Christian work for most of their adult life. Bob has taught High School Scripture (four years at Sydney Boys High), pastored a Congregational Church (five years at Milperra) and also a Baptist Church (seven years at Gundagai). Together they have served as missionaries for six years in Botswana where Bob lectured and trained Pastors at a Bible College. They attend Belconnen Baptist Church with their youngest daughter, while their adult children are involved in various forms of Christian service and theological training elsewhere. Bob has continued a lifelong passion of combining sport and ministry, as Chaplain to One Basketball Canberra, the Canberra Capitals and the ACT Academy of Sport – giving plenty of opportunity for evangelism. Evelyn works as a teacher’s assistant to special needs children in Canberra. They both love people and have special gifts in counselling others to remain faithful to God’s Word. Bob has preached at WVBC in the past and Evelyn has taken part in various women’s events at WVBC, including the Women’s Event in 2006.

Kel Willis (Burwood, NSW: Baptist)

Kel is the Director of Christian Growth Ministries (CGM), a non-denominational organisation run from his home in Sydney. CGM ministers to the local church at large. Kel has had over four decades experience in Christian work, including evangelism, pastoral and youth ministry, and itinerant teaching with CGM. Married to Jeanette, he is an ordained Baptist minister, and is primarily involved in ministry to pastors and church leaders, consultancy and conflict resolution.
